CTAM Canada has released new research that shows a high level of confusion in the Canadian market over how High Definition signals are received and how many services are available in the HDTV format. One key finding showed that three in ten (30%) Canadians claim to own a High Definition Television, but only 13% of Canadians have a set-top box capable of providing High Definition signals. The same research showed that Canadian’s are generally unaware of the features and benefits associated with High Definition Television.

| General News: CRTC Rules in Favour of OUTtv vs Shaw Cable |

Yesterday the CRTC released an important decision regarding a dispute between Canada's national gay and lesbian programming service, OUTtv and Shaw Cable systems. The CRTC ruled that Shaw has subjected OUTtv to an "undue disadvantage" in its marketing practices. In addition, the CRTC ruled on a number of other important issues including channel placement and audit rights.

The best of Canadian Lifestyle, Children's and Youth television were awarded tonight at the second of three Gemini Industry Awards galas. A total of 21 categories were awarded tonight at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto. This week's award shows will conclude with the Drama, Variety and Comedy Gala on Wednesday, October 22. The 23rd Annual Gemini Awards will culminate with the Broadcast Gala Awards November 28th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, which will be simulcast on E! network and Showcase at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The new fund of $585,000 will target independent documentary film producers with a Western Canadian focus.
