In the true spirit of community support, many of Newfoundland’s finest entertainers are donating their time and talent for a night of entertainment that will be carried live on the CBC Country Canada television channel on Thursday, March 6 from 6PM to 8 PM ET.
On February 15, a massive flood hit the Central Newfoundland community of Badger. Combined with cold winter temperatures, the entire town was devastated as homes, cars and other possessions were covered or surrounded by ice.1200 residents have been affected and surrounding communities have stepped in to lend a hand in housing the residents and caring for their immediate needs. It’s estimated that it will be months before the people can return to their homes.
In response, 20 Newfoundland and Labrador musical acts, 150 artists, including Crush, The Irish Descendants, Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, The Masterless Men, Pamela Morgan, Mark Bragg, Ron Hynes, Denis Parker, Billy and the Bruisers, The NSO Youth Choir, Rasa, Shanneygonock, The Punters, Barry Canning, Jackie Sullivan, Gearbox, A Crowd of Bold Sharemen, Colleen Power & Sean Panting, Terry Penney, and The Navigators, will all perform at a benefit concert to lift the spirits of the people affected by the Badger flood, and to raise much needed funds to assist in piecing their lives back together.
“This is an important live television program for CBC Country Canada,” says Jay Mowat, Executive Producer of the CBC Country Canada television channel. “Our of our jobs is to carry programming for rural and regional audiences and I can’t think of anything more important than this. Our live broadcast will allow people from across the country to support the people of Badger.”
In addition to funds raised at the concert, the Red Cross has set up a toll free number for the general public and the corporate community to get involved. Anyone wanting to contribute to the fund can do so by calling 1-800-418-1111.
