TSN heads into the long weekend with live coverage of four CFL tilts – including the highly-anticipated Labour Day Classic games, as the CFL’s annual traditional rivalries go head-to-head on the gridiron. For the first time in network history, TSN will have live coverage of both Labour Day games on Monday, Sept. 1 with Edmonton @ Calgary at 4 p.m. ET (pre-game at 3:30 p.m. ET) followed by Toronto @ Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. ET. A special edition of SportsCentre will air between the match-ups.
The Labour Day doubleheader headlines TSN’s long weekend CFL coverage, which also features B.C. @ Montreal on Friday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET (pre-game at 7 p.m. ET) and Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. ET (pre-game at 2:30 p.m. ET).
In anticipation of the big four-game weekend, the CFL on TSN studio panel will be live, on location at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, as host Dave Randorf and analysts Chris Schultz, Matt Dunigan and Jock Climie will be on the field and surrounded by fans for a special edition of Sunday’s pre-game show.
In addition, TSN’s Brian Williams will be live from the sidelines at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton as the on-site host for Monday’s tilt between the Argonauts and Tiger-Cats.
Williams will also conduct two big features airing over the long weekend: on Friday, Williams sits down with Wally Buono and his daughter Christie, as the usually staunch and serious head coach of the Lions opens up about the inspirational notes he receives from his daughter before each game. The notes, which Christie has been writing to her father since grade five, have helped Buono through some difficult times, including heart surgery and the death of his friend, Bob Ackles.
And leading into Monday’s game between Edmonton and Calgary, Williams visits with Brock and Brett Ralph, receivers with the Eskimos and Stampeders, respectively, as they prepare to face off at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. The brothers, who grew up cheering for the Stamps in the small town of Raymond, AB, discuss the importance their family places on this classic Battle of Alberta, and the anticipation and excitement of playing in front of 30 family members on Labour Day.
In 2005, TSN televised the Classic game featuring Toronto @ Hamilton, marking the first time the network had CFL action on Labour Day. This match-up remains the most-watched CFL game ever on TSN, delivering a national average audience of 791,000.
TSN is a division of CTVglobemedia.
