Astral Media The Harold Greenberg Fund is pleased to announce the launch of a new documentary fund during the Vancouver International Film Festival’s Film & Television Forum. The new fund of $585,000 will target independent documentary film producers with a Western Canadian focus. The envelope of money for investment in documentary filmmaking that will be managed by The Harold Greenberg Fund has been allocated from residual obligations from the benefits associated with the Standard Radio/Telemedia transaction.
Astral Media Radio, a division of Astral Media Inc. today announced the closure of its on-line and television classified ad division TATV, previously Télé-Annonces. The decision to shut down this service will take effect immediately. The closure will result in a reduction of 28 full-time and ten part-time positions in Québec.
Astral Media’s Family Channel today announced the launch of Playhouse Disney Canada, a multiplex channel targeting young children. Launching November 30, 2007, the channel will feature entertaining and development-based programming from Disney, together with celebrated Canadian series.

At a public hearing held October 26th, Astral Media Inc. presented its comments to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission regarding the five applications submitted in response to the CRTC's Call for Applications for a Broadcasting License to Carry on a National, General Interest Pay Television Undertaking.
The following Canadian films supported by Astral Media have been accepted into the 2004 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Salt Lake City starting January 15th through until January 25th: THAT TOUCH OF PINK (Director: Ian Iqbal Rashid), THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD (Director: Guy Maddin), A SILENT LOVE (Director: Federico Hidalgo), and SEVEN TIMES LUCKY (Director: Gary B. Astral Media Inc. is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Vidéotron regarding its Family Channel service, which will begin re-broadcasting in the Québec market at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. The terms of the agreement with Vidéotron will not be disclosed.
Since April 2002, Vidéotron unilaterally decided to pay only half of the rates it owes to Astral Media's Family Channel (under a contract allowing it to offer Family to its subscribers). Since Vidéotron is not changing its position on this matter, Family is forced to suspend its service to Vidéotron, effective immediately.
